Walks with Kay Series at Lake Bee

The Friends of Carolina Sandhills NWR will have its monthly “Walks with Kay” series at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 23. “Birds, blooms, and Black Creek” will be led by Dr. Robert Carter, a forestry and wildlife agent with Clemson Extension, to immerse yourself in the beauty of Black Creek, where upland pines, bottomland hardwood and managed fields set the stage for blooming mountain
laurel and sightings of prothonotary warblers, bobwhite quail, and red-cockaded woodpeckers. Participants will meet at the Lake Bee Recreation area, six miles north of McBee on Highway 145, and have a chance to explore areas that are “off the beaten path” of the refuge. RSVP by 6 p.m. on the Thursday before the hike at [email protected].
