Chesterfield County Seniors 2 Day Nutrition Event
Eligible Chesterfield County seniors will have an opportunity to receive vouchers through the South Carolina Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program during a two-day distribution event June 17 and 18. The distribution will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day in the fellowship building of Hopewell Baptist Church, located at 15084 SC-9, Chesterfield. Vouchers will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. The Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program provides qualifying seniors with vouchers that can be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from approved farmers’ markets and roadside stands across South Carolina. To qualify, applicants must be at least 60 years old on the day they apply. Participants also must know their total household size and household income and present a photo identification card showing their current address. Chesterfield County on Aging officials said individuals may pick up vouchers for as many as two other eligible people if specific requirements are met. Those picking up vouchers on behalf of another person must bring a copy of that individual’s photo identification, know the person’s household size and income, and provide a signed note authorizing them to receive the vouchers. The signature on the note must match the identification provided. These requirements also apply to spouses. A person with power of attorney may obtain vouchers for another person if they bring the appropriate legal documentation. Program administrators emphasized that residents must apply in the county where they live. Since the distribution is being hosted at Hopewell Baptist Church, organizers ask residents not to contact the church with questions about the program, noting that church staff members
are unable to provide information regarding voucher eligibility or distribution procedures. More information is available by calling Chesterfield County Council on Aging at (843) 623-2280.
